Beth and I are headed up to New York, Pennsylvania, and all points north for the next week. Vaya con Dios, amigos.

Friendster works now. Everyone that I know can be expecting invitations. All three of you.

If you want to find a guy in your personal network, search for Full Metal Jacket under Movies. If you want to find a girl, search for Simpsons under TV.

Jeremy just invited me to Friendster, and I'm going through the signup process. I get to the part where I guess I'm supposed to say what my interests are and the like, and the page is broken. So I wander around the site, and roughly half of the pages automatically redirect to the broken page. Pure genius. I wish I had known all it took to get on the front page of MSN and a mention on CNN was a broken signup page.

Why is Jessica Lynch getting the Bronze Star? She was wounded when the Humvee she was riding in was blown up. That's the extent of her combat experience. She didn't do any fighting or help any of her comrades. She just got wounded. Don't get me wrong--I'm not ungrateful for the service she did her country. She's getting a Purple Heart for her wounds, and POW medal for being held in an Iraqi hospital. I just don't see where the meritorious service is. Why not hand out Bronze Stars to every American soldier who saw combat, instead of the Combat Infantry Badge or whatever they get now?

It's the same thing I said about Sept. 11th: you're not a hero just by virtue of getting blown up.

The Liberians are blaming us for all the people being killed in their civil war. But you can bet that the minute American troops are on the ground over there, they'll hate us for intervening in their affairs. Why is it our responsibility to sort out all these situations? Who decided we should be the international policeman?

I guess it's Bush's fault for trying to use Liberia as a smokescreen. Now they expect us to sort out their civil war. He didn't solve the Afghanistan problem, and he hasn't made much visible progress in Iraq, so now he's getting us involved in Liberia to cover up those flaws. But I read that the assessment team he sent over there hasn't left the embassy yet because the situation is too dangerous. If I understand this correctly, he sent a team of soldiers who are specially trained to assess conflict situations in other countries, but these soldiers haven't left the embassy because it's too dangerous. So what the hell is the point of having them? Maybe they specialize more in pillow-fights and water-balloon battles?
