the company certainly isn't a rising star. i think one of the biggest problems is that it's a private company. The owner is an engineer. And he's pretty smart, too, at engineering. He has confidence in his intelligence and engineering capability, but unfortunately he also has confidence is his ability to run a company. This company is the only job he's ever had. he started it like 15 years ago right out of college, and it was a pretty small company for about 10 or 11 years. About 4 years or so ago, they came out with some new major production line type of equipment that was really popular. So after that the company went from about 30 or so people, to around 180. That would have been a pretty good time to go public, but they didn't. When things got bad, the owner fired all his senior management and didn't replace them. he's now trying to run a 100 person company all on his own. He has no clue what he's doing and doesn't know it. And he is accountable to noone, since it's a private company. if it were a public company he would have been forced from his management role, and that would have been great. oh well.

Apparently some schools in Georgia allow students to form their own independent student councils. The major effect of this is an injection of "defacto" segregation into an integrated school, since the student councils can restrict members by race. The whole thing is just sad.

That makes your old company sound like a sinking ship, that such a prominent figure is looking for a way out...

Yesterday I had lunch with the people that I used to have lunch with daily(and still all have their jobs), before I started playing racquetball. The main point of it for me was to ask if anybody knew anybody that could get my resume to somebody that might want to look at it. I suppose I was also hungry, but I can't honestly say that I really enjoy most of their company, so I wasn't really there to be social.

Anyway, one of them actually said to me, "no offense, jeremy, but if i knew of anybody that was hiring, i'd try to get the job first."

no offense, eh? how the hell am I not supposed to take offense at that. The guy that said that to me was the highest paid, most respected at the company among all the engineers there. His position is more secure than any of them, is what i'm saying. And knowing he's in that position, he still said that shit to me, the guy that's going to have to move in with his dad by the end of may if he doesn't find a real job.

Talk about a serious clarification of the dynamics of that group. I guess the only reason I ever had lunch with any of them was because I thought it was better than eating alone. what an asshole.

People using the video game Halo to make movies. Some of these are pretty funny. I recommend Warthog Jump.

Seven year old boy's tumor turns out to be his parasitic twin brother. This really creeps me out.

The whores in the HR department at Lockheed Martin have flooded every jobs site with about 10 thousand positions. This is just retarded. I'll search for all software engineering positions in washington, dc(or wherever), and the fuckers always return the maximum number of returns. As if I had searched for the word "the" or something. Anyway, I'll get 398 different positions at Lockheed, and 2 for other companies. If i refine my search to filter out "lockheed" i'll usually get something like 30 job postings that didn't seem to be there before. And what's even more dumb is that you submit your resume to lockheed, and then it's in their database and there's no need to submit for any other jobs. So the first time you see a lockheed job posting is nice, but the next 98 thousand times are just fucking annoying.

The Egyptian sailor who died of anthrax isn't getting much coverage in the major media outlets. Supposedly he was transporting a suitcase of anthrax to Canada.
