Here's the CDC page for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Time to stock up on ammo and MREs.

Beth and I were talking about this "atypical pneumonia" this morning. I'm convinced that this will be the next Spanish Flu. I hope you don't mind, Uncle George, if Beth and I come fort up with you until the herd has thinned a little.

I noticed this on Yahoo this morning. It ties in with a story in the New York Times about the same problem. I suspect both are linked to a report in Science magazine referring to a new strain of swine flu humans have no immune defense against. (I can't post the Science article because you would have to join to read it, and I doubt you'd put out 120 scoots for one story) Bottom line; we are all going to die soon. Doesn't that make your day?

A pretty good number of us have attended the University of Texas at some point in our lives. Since a guy hacked (sort of, I guess) into University databases and stole personal information for more than 55,000 students, former students, faculty, and staff, it might be a good idea to check this site to see if you're affected. And if you file a class-action suit, I expect a finder's fee.

"France wants influence and power. It wants influence over the international security order that is developing in the aftermath of the Cold War. France is no longer a great power; its influence will not come as a result of the size of its military or the robustness of its economy. It will come from imposing on the international system a system of procedures, rules and regulations that will constrain the ability of more powerful states, and particularly the United States, to act without Frances assent."

I completely agree with that analysis. France wants to be on the other side of Vladimir Putin's "multipolar world". One pole being the US, more or less a democracy, the other end being everybody willing to submit their sovereignty to undemocratic international bureaucracies for the sole purpose of undermining American power and our entrepreneurial capitalist system. Sounds strangely familiar. I think we've dealt with a system similar to that once before...

Forget about monkeys and iraq, there are people drinking their own urine in Cameroon.

I'm kind of afraid of what kind of hits we'll get after google sees this post.

I like how Colin Powell claims the US is trying to help the UN do its job. But seriously, the UN doesn't have much credibility, anyway. How many Security Council resolutions has it passed against Israel? Does it matter AT ALL? Nope. I don't think the US is wrong to give up on this whole resolution thing. Maybe it's time to scrap the UN Security Council and start all over. I recommend no permanent members, or at least no permanent member vetos. Seriously, what if the US became a rogue state? The Security Council would be helpless against us, because we could veto anything. Also, we could capture all the diplomats and use them as human shields...

And also, while I'm just droning on and on and not working, why are France and Russia such huge supporters of Iraq? The French really get under my skin, like spider eggs.

THERE WAS A MONKEY ESCAPE! I know where I'm going this weekend.

In other news, the good people at Koss offered to replace our DVD player under warranty. Not only that, but they no longer manufacture this model, so we'll get a newer, improved version. So I guess I take back everything I said about them.

I made a few changes, most notably to the Fortune archive. It's now an ASP page, so that the fortune include will work.

I just noticed the Robots tag that Muammar put in. Pretty slick. Dunno why I didn't think of that.

I hate Netscape times a million. The styles I've been using lately to position background images apparently don't work in Netscape. I thought I was going to save so much time on my latest project, but no damn luck.

Also, our four month old DVD player with the three month warranty doesn't recognize any disks anymore. Never buy any Koss products. You will regret it to the end of your days. That's right, Google users, do not buy DVD players manufactured by Koss, specifically the Koss C220, as it is a worthless piece of shit. Ours has stopped working after three months of very sparing usage. We hardly used it at all, in fact. Nothing irregular happened to it--it just sat in our tv stand until Saturday, SURPRISE, no worky! This is because it is a piece of garbage. I hate Koss. Koss sucks times a billion! (That's right, you can send me a cease and desist letter right here).

A paragraph in this article says:
North Korea called on Friday for bilateral talks, saying Washington was alleging Pyongyang was developing nuclear weapons in order to disarm it.

Am I crazy for thinking the North Koreans claimed to have nuclear weapons before we ever accused them of it? I swear that's how I remember this whole thing starting.

Some poor Iraqis thought the war had already started and tried to surrender to the British. The British had to send them back because they were only testing their weapons. I feel awful that so many of these poor bastards are going to be killed just to get rid of Saddam Hussein.

Here's a little flash mind reader game. It took me several minutes to do the math to figure out the trick, but that's because i had to go outside and gather up enough acorns and twigs that I could comprehend the numbers involved.
