The CIA has approval to kill certain high-ranking terrorists if capture is impractical. Why this is suddenly news is a mystery to me. Didn't we all know already that they were doing this? For instance, didn't they just whack that one guy in Yemen a few months ago?

In any case, hosing terrorists sounds good to me. Now if only there were a more capable agency in charge.

In the final sentence of your article, the scientist makes the completely unqualified statement that we're seeing the most rapid Arctic warming in "recorded history." I submit to you that Arctic temperatures have only been measured and recorded in the last century, and that's not enough time to make any kind of statement. There's no denying that the Arctic is warm this year, as is the whole planet. We need a larger context in which to view this, though. I've read articles in Discover that suggest the planet goes through swings like this pretty consistently. It certainly was very warm all over when the dinosaurs roamed the earth, and it certainly was very cold when North America was covered with ice. So it's getting warmer--it doesn't mean the sky is falling. Not only that, but the worst that could happen is that the ice caps melt, the seaboards flood, the interiors become arid wastelands, and billions die. In several thousand years, the climate will get back into synch, and everything will be right as rain. You just need to look at the big picture.

Also, in the first paragraph, they refer to Greenland as a continent. It's big, but it's no continent. Unless the researcher was talking about leaving North America. Maybe that's what they meant, but if so, I'd recommend that they not leave in a helicopter...

For the last time, there is NO SUCH THING as Global Warming.

If these people are guilty, I hope they swing high and long. This is worse than just killing a person, they conspired to kill a person because she called the police to protect herself. They then to act as friends -- smile, and smile, and be a villain -- in order that they could abduct her...

If her boyfriend, who beat her, had beaten her to death, it would have been a tragedy, and he would have deserved whatever our justice system may have deemed to punish him with, but that she acted to save herself, to get out of that situation, and then was killed in retaliation for standing up for herself, for trying to stop the physical abuse; I say those are the real terrorists. Their acts undermine the liberties and freedoms that this country stands for more than some suicide bomber.

Behindthename.com is fun.

My name, Jeremy Seth, means the following:
Jeremy ==> Jeremiah ==> Yirmeyahu (in hebrew) ==> "Yahweh(god) has uplifted"
Seth ==> Either "placed" or "appointed" in Hebrew. Seth was also the third son of Adam and Eve, the survivor of the whole Cane and Abel nonsense, and the "forefather of the entire human race."

Alternative for Seth ==> Egyptian for "Set" or "Setekh", meaning either "pillar" or "dazzle". Seth was the "evil Egyptian god of chaos," and "the slayer of Osiris."

I like it.

Yesterday, I think it was on TV, I heard somebody describe what seemed to me to be a pretty accurate description of the difference between GWB and Bill Clinton. The person on TV, I think it may have been john stewart, said that george w pretty much does everything he wants to do throughout the world, without bothering to ask if anybody minds, and bill clinton told everybody that we really cared what they thought about what we were doing around the world, and then went and did whatever he wanted.

I went to austin a few weeks ago. I went canoeing on town lake, had thai food on the drag, enjoyed the weather, went to amy's ice cream, and did the 6th street thing. I think it had been over a year since I'd been to austin and done anything significant. I had some shitty times in austin, but it certainly had nothing to do with austin.

Be the first kid on your block!

I have a new friend, and that friend is Lortab. I had my tonsils out last week, and whoever invented opiates should get a medal. I'll be back on real food by next week.

I found out last week that my grandfather was in Stalag B, which I think is Stalag XVII-B, during WWII. He was captured during the Battle of the Bulge and spent about a year there. He was a Combat Engineer, building bridges, not finding mines.

We always pay whoever we invade after we invade them. Speaking of war, anybody know any good books about Pancho Villa or Emilio Zapata, or the Spanish-American War, or the Mexican-American War?

Hey did you know about the Quasi-War with France? I sure didn't. I guess we won. The Naval historians are pretty good about listing our successes, but not too sharp about telling the real outcome of the war. For instance, I always thought we won the war with the Barbary Coast nations, but apparently we paid them 1000000 bucks to sign the treaty.

I was just thinking that we're not beeing very good cyber-citizens. I appreciate the new design, but we ought to have a link to blogger somewhere on here, right?

There's something about volkswagen commercials. Whoever their agency is, they really have a talent for not inspiring violent images in my mind, unlike the Gap corporation. I like the newest one for the convertable beetle, which incidentally is not on their commercials website, yet. Oh, and they made a commercial that said some nice things about engineers, it's the DNA link. That helped, too.
