A good counterscript to use against telemarketers.

How IKEA keeps its prices low. Seems like most of the answer is "volume." You should read the manifesto area of IKEA's site, just for the sound bytes.

I can't really disagree with the North Korean official in this article. Self-preservation and all. Even if we go in alphabetical order, they've only got til Iran falls...

By now you've heard that Saddam Hussein won the latest Iraqi presidential race, in "a unique manifestation of democracy which is superior to all other forms of democracies even in these countries which are besieging Iraq and trying to suffocate it." I wholly agree with this sentiment, and have recently conducted a similar election in my own household, in which I was elected Supreme Husband of 2204 Lane Rd. Running unopposed, I swept the elections with 99.97% of the 1 ballot cast. Just as in previous elections, this year's biggest issue was women's suffrage, which an overwhelming majority of the household's voting population remains staunchly against. Allegations of ballot-box-stuffing are completely unfounded, as are rumors that anyone caught voting against me faced immediate execution.

I think this article is supposed to say that the war on Iraq isn't about oil, but that oil is a significant benefit of going to war there. Don't know. It has some interesting things to say, though. Like that the James Baker thinktank says Iraq could produce six million barrels of oil a day, more than even Saudi Arabia, given 5 years to ramp up. I wonder how much Saudi Arabia could produce, given five years to ramp up. It also points out that just because Iraq can produce so much oil doesn't mean it will produce that much. I think they'd increase production, but not to that level. Why drive the price down so far?

That's precisely why we need such a small set--mobility. We can get up and go at a moment's notice. If we had this 50" Plasma Screen set, we could never move it in any kind of reasonable timeframe. Not only that, but it's worth more than all of our lives combined (and that's a conservative estimate). And everyone knows that the DuMont brand is synonymous with quality. But if you really want a different set, go ahead and pick one out.

It's intriguing, but I want a bigger TV. I'd like it to be as large as we can afford, just as long as I don't have to haul it up 3 flights (yes, 3) of stairs. If stairs are involved, then the one we have now will do fine.

I'm redesigning the site now. You may have noticed. There was a time when I'd have done all the design work separately and gotten it working before I made it live, but this time I wanted instant gratification. And I would've gotten it, too, if it hadn't been for Netscape being such a piece of crap. Such an utter, utter piece of crap. You know how Netscape is supposed to ignore the iframe tag? Well, it ignores every part of the tag but the dimensions, apparently. I hate Netscape. Nobody should use it. I advocate a complete monopoly in the field of browser design and manufacture. Supposedly a competitive market encourages innovation, but it looks like a competitive market only allows some browser manufacturers to take a more luddite approach to design and development. These companies only exist because they are not Microsoft, and there's a group of die-hards out there who would rather eat rusty screws and pour ground glass into their eyes than use a Microsoft product.

More information on Tenet's letter regarding Iraq. None of this matters. I'm sure we'll end up going to war with Iraq, and Saddam will use whatever weapons he has, and then both Bush AND the CIA will get to say, "I told you so."

I enjoyed this quote from Ari Fleischer: "If Saddam Hussein holds a gun to someone's head, while he denies he even owns a gun, do you really want to take a chance that he'll never use it." What Ari leaves out of his muddled little analogy is that Saddam has also invited the entire world to come look for the gun anywhere we feel like looking. I really hate Ari Fleischer.
