If I didn't get telemarketer calls, my phone would never ring. My system; since the numbers are dialled by a computer, there is a characteristic "dead" interval until a caller picks up. I hear that , I hang up. Anybody calls me for real, better speak fast.

Those fires in Arizona are unbelievable. Article says they are arson. like the Colorado one. With the damage done, anyone caught shouldn't be imprisoned, but cremated (fighting fire with fire).

Hey, everyone--we're getting so many telemarketers calling the house that we've started screening our calls. If you call us, wait four rings for the answering machine, and then say clearly who you are at the tone. If we're there, we'll pick up. We've already had three telemarketers call us this beautiful saturday morning...

So much for the idea that if you steal from a drug dealer they won't report the crime; or, when good seeds go bad.

There's something strange and beautiful about the wording of the latest Cnn.com internet poll.

Will Yasser Arafat's call for attacks against Israeli civilians to 'completely stop' end the suicide bombings?

Devin, you're awfully pricey for such a meaty girl.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. How 'bout them Americans?

The first and last paragraphs of this article are really the only important ones.

Beijing officials have closed down the city's 2,400 Internet cafes after a fire at an unlicensed cafe killed 24 people, a move that could temporarily keep millions off the Internet.

In December 2000, a fire at a disco in the central city of Luoyang killed 309 people. Investigators blamed the high death toll on locked emergency exits. They did not move to close down discos after that blaze.

Last week my air conditioner died. It'd been on it's last leg for a while, my brother bought it used 10 years ago, and about 8 years ago fireants ate all of the eletrical components out of it, so it was permanently on high cool with no thermostat, and I turn it on and off at the breaker.

I got a replacement today, new from Lowe's. Lowe's is horrible. My brother always said that but I didn't understand why til today.

They didn't have the unit I wanted (SKU#149465) next to the display, so I went to the customer sevvice desk to see if there were any in stock. I spoke to the Head Cashier, or so her nametag claimed. She said that indeed they had 13 in stock. I said there weren't any over there, and where else might they keep them? She said she'd send someone over.

I heard the page go out immediately. I got to the aisle and wandered back and forth for 15 minutes until the idiot arrived. He asked what I needed, I said, "That one." He replied, "We're out of that one." "Up front they said you had 13 in stock. Maybe you've got them somewhere else?" "No, we'd keep them all here, and, well, we quit carrying that model and we've replaced it with another brand that's more expensive." "That's cool, I'll take the demo model then." "These are all dummy models," he replied with a wave of his hand down the row of 15 or so window units. Most of the units, including SKU#149465 were still sitting on the base of the original boxes, where they'd cut the sides and top off with razor blades. The compressor and condensor were clearly visible through the side louvres of the case. My skepticism must've been clear on my face, either that or it was because half of the units were on, but he decided to reassure me by showing how little the unit weighed. With a great shove and an audible grunt he managed to barely move the 250 pound air conditioner. He realized that he'd been beat, and went to get someone who had a clue.

Enter Greg R. Greg R took his sweet time in arriving, and made the mistake of sending the idiot to find SKU#149465 out back where they had 12 stacked. Fifteen minutes later Greg R brought up the pallet with my precious baby.

The worst thing about Lowe's is it seems like Home Depot or some other store until you want something. By then you're already committed, and you figure it's just easier to bear it than leave. So, while I saved $29 over if I'd gone to Home Depot, I wasted an hour and had to deal with the idiot. Finally, I helped keep them in business that much longer. Sigh.
